Ask me to make you an indie rock mix and this song is going to be the first track. I don’t care who you ask me to put on there or not put on there, this track will be front and center. Why I love this song so much I do not know. But I do know it is the single most played song on my iTunes behind a song I’d rather not reveal because I want to eventually post it here. This is about the time you should be clicking play if you haven’t already.

We hope you’re well into the swing of all things west coast so here’s another treat courtesy of Orange County, Mischa Barton not included. The craziest part about Aloe Blacc is that I automatically assumed the man was from some type of Northeastern Gotham when I first heard him. His type of soulful arrangement doesn’t come around too often, much less from the ‘fornian seaboard. Here’s a Madbury welcome to the shining soulful knight of the west coast, so listen closely.

Let’s talk about pop music. Some people hate it and shun away from all uses of the word, while others glorify it because it’s the one genre that preponderates their iTunes music library. I love pop music. Don’t berate me. I’ll be the first to defend the greatness of commercial pop and hold you all hostage until you agree with me like John Q did for his only son—but only if the music is done right.

Biggie or Pac. Pac or Biggie. Even in 2010, almost 20 years later, the debate is still going on with no sight of middle ground. It seems there would be some kind of ‘agree to disagree’ pact formed by now, but when talking about hip-hop fans you can never have your own opinion without being savagely attacked. God forbid you say you don’t care for either of them. Truth is you like what you like, but if you don’t like at least one of Pac’s songs something’s wrong.

I mean how can you blame us? What other place in the world has more of a distinct and easily recognizable brand of sound and soul than the Western Coast of America? And we’re not even limiting ourselves to California. Rest assured that some Seattle tinted grunge will be making its way through these hallowed halls this week as well.  RIP Cobain.  Welcome to the Madbury Club’s West Coast Invasion Week, and more specifically, a week of Madbury Music choices all concerning the glorious sounds that emerge from our neighbors to the West. It’s going to be a beautiful thing. Be sure to drop us comments on what you want to hear!

Way before his venture out to become a Pastor and even longer before his short-lived collaboration with G-Unit, Mason Betha was 1 of 2 figures glowing at the peak of hip-hop in the late 90’s. Mase and Puff Daddy (as we solely called him back then) were the duo that no one in that era could stop. Puff’s smooth aura with Mase’s witty lyrics combined with the world’s most flamboyant outfits created one of the world’s largest fan base in the hip-hop community. They were the Batman and Robin of music.
